Open Access Appointments

Open Access allows the patient to make a Same-Day Appointments with their provider, depending on the availability of the daily schedules. Open Access will allow the patient to access care with their provider on the same day as opposed to days, weeks, or even months in advance.

We are hoping to decrease the DNKA (Did Not Keep Appointment) Rates at least by half every month.
Studies have shown that Open Access helps medical facilities operate more efficiently and increases capacity to care for patients.

We are hoping to do several things with Open Access:

  • Reduce patient wait time
  • Match and schedule patients with their primary provider
  • A better outcome for Continuity of Care
  • More productive patient visit
  • Gives the patient option to schedule the Same Day, or let them choose the day of the appointment.
  • Decreases use of urgent care services
  • Patient Satisfaction

Vivitrol Program

This program is a collaboration of Medical, Behavioral Health, and Pharmacy to assist patients who suffer from opioid and/or alcohol addiction.  Vivitrol, also known as naltrexone, is a once-monthly injection that blocks the part of the brain that feels pleasure when alcohol or opioids, such as hydrocodone, methadone, or heroin are used.  It also reduces cravings.  Vivitrol is used in combination with Behavioral Health outpatient treatment to reduce the rate of relapse which enables patients to develop ways to overcome their addiction.  Since the program began, 7 people have successfully completed the program, and we currently have 4 people in the program.

The Vivitrol Program is available to both Kamiah and Lapwai Patients. The Initial appointment must be completed in Lapwai and following appoints may be done at either location. Transportation is available.

Steps to Enroll in the Vivitrol Program:

  • Behavioral Health visit to complete an initial assessment
  • Medical provider visit for a medical exam
  • Lab visit for a blood and urine sample
  • A meeting with the patient’s Medical provider, Behavioral Health provider, patient, and their support person occur to review the requirements of the Vivitrol Program
  • Nurse observation for withdrawal symptoms before and after administering a “test dose”
  • If no withdrawal symptoms, the Vivitrol injection is given.  The patient will be observed for 15 minutes afterward
  • An appointment for the next Vivitrol injection will be scheduled for 25-28 days later
  • Weekly appointments will be scheduled with a Behavioral Health provider

Medical appointments after the initial injection are much shorter.  The visit includes:

  • Lab visit for a blood and urine sample
  • Medical provider reviews labs and assesses how the patient is doing
  • The Vivitrol injection is administered
